Pete’s Dance

for alto flute and finger puppet (2019)

Meet Pete.

This is an improvised work that explores the motion of a flutist’s hands on the keys. When a simple finger puppet is worn on the right hand middle finger, it appears to have limbs. Moving the keys of the right hand help bring Pete to life. Moving the left hand fingers simultaneously opens a new world of sound for Pete.

Pete’s Dance was performed by the composer and recorded at IMERSD Studio, QCGU by Tangible Media (video) and Steve Thornely (audio).
